COUNCIL SUBCOMMITTEES

Most committees are open to any member of the public, and we have options for in-person, on-line, short-term and on-going roles.
Executive Committee
The executive committee is the only one that is filled through a nomination process.* This committee includes Parent/Caregivers, Teaching and Non-teaching Staff, Community Representatives and the school Principal. Nominations for 2024-2 are now closed.
*In accordance with TDSB policy, nominations and elections occur at the start of every school-year and positions are held for 1 year.
Anti-Racism Committee addresses racism within our school, particularly anti-Black racism. Since 2020 we have worked to secure Ministry funding to collect parent voice, and organize workshops, trainings and events to promote anti-racism in our school and community. We work closely with the Secord (teachers) anti-racism committee, and advise the school on issues relating to racism and discrimination.
Communications Committee is responsible for managing all of the Secord Council's communications including our email, newsletters, social media, website, promotional materials and annual reports.
Finance Committee oversees all of the School Council's finances, including creating our annual budget, identifying fundraising goals and reporting to our members on a regular basis. The committee also applies for and oversees any grants from external funders and organizations. This committee works closely with the others to identify opportunities to secure funding for Council initiatives and events.
Gardening Committee maintains the garden beds along Palmer Ave, the memorial gardens, and have plans to create a larger pollinator garden at the school in 2023/2024. We also collect seeds from our current gardens to grow more plants for the community.
Advocacy Committee: advocates for school improvement and safety. Focusing on anti-bullying, updating our building and getting a crossing guard for the front of the school.
Community Partnership Committee works on building partnerships with businesses within our community to support school events or bring programs and workshops to Secord.
