Language disorders across degenerative conditions:

Dementia, Mild Cognitive Impairment & Healthy Ageing
Communication is essential to humans, but language is still underused in detecting brain-related disorders beyond aphasia. This is mainly due to the lack of standardised data and sensitive tools to identify early language changes. Early diagnosis of conditions like mild cognitive impairment and dementia is crucial, as these disorders affect subtle aspects of language before symptoms become obvious.
The SECONDS-GALES & the LINDESGALES projects aim to develop an effective language-based assessment tool for early detection of language deficits. Its widespread use in healthcare could improve prevention, treatment planning, and quality of life. The projects focus on Galician and Spanish speakers and on patients with mild cognitive impairment and dementia.
