Why you should be careful with third party viewers

Privacy has always been a big issue on the internet. And it will always be there. People who eves drop you, people who wants to steal your personal information and sell it to third party companies. Having a good anti virus software firewall and anti spyware wont always help against the bad guys..

If you arent playing it safe... It will get to you eventually.

Even on Second Life this is a major issue... So be carefull if you download a third party Second Life viewer!

What could happen if you use a untrusted/unverified viewer

- Stealing your login credentials

- The ability to steal your Second Life account.

- Stealing your in world money and credit card information and the possibility to end up having debts in real life

- Stealing your real life personal information like your ip adress, mac adress, age, email adress, contact information, credit card information, and so on...

- Eve dropping on your private conversations you have in second life (yes, they are able to see everything you are discussing in your Private Message called IM but also in local).

- Eve dropping on your voice and listen to your conversation.

- The ability to have a visual view on what you are actually doing on Second Life

- The possibility that spyware is getting installed on your computer to eve drop on your real life and/or stealing your personal information or maybe conversations you have on skype or anything like that...

Using a untrusted second life viewer might could get you in to troubles big time!

And although Linden Lab haves a third party viewer Directory.. it does not mean its always trusted!

There are a couple viewers who are verified and trusted by linden lab and users in whole Second Life.

Still though, be carefull..

If you are unsure about the viewer you are using.. You are better of using the standard second life client instead.

With the standard Second Life viewer you are sure you will be playing safe.
