Attendance
Missed Classes
a. Students will not receive participation points on days absent, medical excuse, or not participating for other reasons.
b. Students will be given the opportunity to make up absent or medical excuses to earn back the participation points lost within the same unit they miss a class in (for example, if a student misses a day of swimming, they must make up the class during our swimming unit).
c. Students are required to physically make up a class missed, unless they are medically excused for an extended time.
d. Students who forget clothing, refuse to change, or refuse to participate in physical education will be marked as unprepared and will receive a zero for the day. If students are unprepared a second time the student will be assigned an after school detention and every time there after. A student may not make up a class that they refuse to participate in at a prior date.

b. Pre-signed passes will be given for students to make up a PE class during their study halls.
c. If a student does not have a study hall, other arrangements must be made with the teacher. It is the student’s responsibility to see the teacher and make those arrangements before the end of the unit we are covering.
Medical
Students with a medical release will be given opportunities for make-ups at a later time or given written assignments. A doctor’s note is required and must be brought to our school nurse for any medical limitations.
Students who are injured are not able to stay in the gymnasium, they must report to class first to get their assignment and then report to study hall.

Physical Education Grading Procedure
“Strive for Double Five”
Each student will be graded on the “Strive for Double Five” philosophy. Students will be able to earn up to ten points each class. The ten components students will be graded on will consist of:
1. Being on time
2. Changed and dressed appropriately within 5 minutes
3. Safety
4. Demonstrating sportsmanship
5. Positive Attitude
6. Listening to directions
7. Assessment of skill
8. Effort and Actively participating throughout warm up and lesson (*Worth 3 points of the 10)
EACH CLASS IS WORTH 10 POINTS
Earning 10 points = 100 points Earning 9 points = 90 points Earning 8 points = 80 points
Earning 7 points = 70 points Earning 6 points = 60 points Earning 5 points = 50 points
Earning 4 points = 40 points Earning 3 points = 30 points Earning 2 points = 20 points
Earning 1 point = 10 points Earning 0 points = 0 points
***IF WE GO TO REMOTE LEARNING***
Students Responsibilities for Remote Learning
a. Students requirement for Physical Education is to do a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity, 3 times a week.
b. Students will complete 3 log entries a week into google classroom, where there will be logs provided to submit 3 days of workout entries.
c. Students Physical Education entries will be graded each week.
d. Students will be responsible to submit weekly log entries, and will have to submit their entries once a week.
e. All log entries will be due by every Friday of each week.
f. Students are responsible to complete the logs on their own with integrity (the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness).
g. If a log is submitted late, students will lose credit for that weeks log.
h. Students may NOT compile all of their logs and submit them at the end of the quarter. (Remember we would usually see students for 41 minutes 2 or 3 times a week, and students are now being asked to do 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week and then in addition, log what was completed. So yes effort has to be made on the students part, as students will be graded.)
**(It is SO IMPORTANT for students to be physically active for their physical and mental health.) **
Think.... Long, healthy life! It starts now!
Exercise/Workout Activities
a. Exercises/activities students can do include: walking, running, biking, swimming (depending on weather), use of any fitness equipment, weight lifting, yoga, pilates, fitness program videos, active stretching, dance, boxing, karate, any sport/drills, yard work, farm chores, etc.
Log Entries
a. To receive Physical Education credit, students will enter 3 log entries a week due by every Friday.
b. Log entries will include the date, the time (how long students worked out, at least 30 minutes), and explain what students did for their workout or exercises.
c. Students need to be specific as to what exercises/workouts were completed, remember this is to get credit for Physical Education class.
d. Effort is extremely important and it is the students responsibility.
e. Students can make their own log at home using paper and take a screen shot of their logs and then upload it to google classroom. Students may create a word document with their log entries and attach it into google classroom. Students may use your phones/tablets and type in their log entries into google classroom. (Common theme is that students will be using google classroom to enter their log entries for Phys. Ed.)
f. Students who upload a picture of their log to google classroom, or create a word document and upload to google classroom, do not have to in addition fill out the log form entries.
g. Once a week, a new log entry form will be provided for students in google classroom and students will be responsible to enter their 3 log entries.
h. An example of a full credit log entry:
Date Time Exercises/Workout
9-14-20 1 hour 3 sets of: 30 jumping jacks, 10 push ups, 20 sit ups, 1 minute plank, and then I walked up and down my driveway for 40 minutes
9-16-20 30 minutes went for a 15 minute run and walked for 15 minutes around the outside of my house
9-18-20 35 minutes watched and completed the full video/workout with Adriene Mishley yoga video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBu-pQG6sTY
used downward dog, warrior, warrior II, tree pose child's pose, sun salutations (be sure to write a description of what the video included)
***If you watch and complete a workout video, be sure to include a description of what the workout entailed.***
i. An example of how a student would lose points:
Date Time Exercises/Workout
9-18-20 30 minutes worked out
9-20-20 17 minutes did my hair, chewed gum, and painted my nails
9-22-20 30 minutes exercised
9-23-20 6 minutes snap chatted
***Students cannot write "worked out or exercised" and expect to receive credit. Students need to be specific. Again, students will not be coming to class, so students need to show effort to receive credit.***
Exercise/workout Resources
a. Workout videos are a great resource for students to work out on their own, without any equipment and the videos show modifications that students can do in case the exercises are too challenging.
b. Some of the exercises students have used in Phys. Ed that can be done on their own would include: jumping jacks, push ups, sit ups, crunches, mountain climbers, squat thrusts, squats, lunges, reverse lunges, sumo squats, line jumps, planks, cross jacks, skater jumps, high knees, burpees, etc.
c. Students may create a game on their own. Include a description of the game as though the student is teaching someone how to play. An example could be to play "sweat deck", if students have a deck of cards, students can make make every suit a different exercise. Spades could be jumping jacks, clubs could be push ups, diamonds could be lunges, and hearts could be crunches. If a student flips over the 7 of diamonds, that student would need to do 7 lunges. If you have a sibling or friend, you could alternate flipping cards over to take turns (students could do this over face-time with a friend and also be creative with what exercises are chosen).
d. Another example of exercise/workouts to elevate your heart rate, would be to go outside and shoot hoops for 30 minutes. Run after the ball to get it, squat down and bend over to pick it up. Make challenges for yourself, such as shooting a shot 5 times and for every miss you have to do 10 seconds of a plank.
e. Students may utilize any sports or activities that have been previously used and taught in Physical Education classes for resources.
Safety
a. Students need to be safe at all times while exercising.
b. Students need to remember to take breaks and drink water throughout workouts.
c. If students choose to lift weights, students should only lift as much weight as they feel comfortable lifting (always err on the side of caution).
d. Students need to examine their surroundings and make sure it is a safe environment to workout in.
e. Students should plan accordingly as outdoor weather may require warmer clothing and indoor weather may require cooler clothing.
f. Students who have inhalers are responsible to bring their inhalers with them to workout.
g. Students that are medically out of PE, need to speak with our nurse Mrs. Gilmore and provide a doctor's note. Student's who are medically out will be required to follow their physicians recommendations such as physical therapy exercises, modifications from their doctor.
Physical Education Grading Procedure
“Strive for Double Five”
a. Each student will be graded on the “Strive for Double Five” philosophy. Students will be able to earn up to ten points for each weekly log entry.
b. Students will be graded once a week on a 10 point scale, a 10 being equivalent to a 100%.
c. Students will receive 2 points for each log entry including the date, time (how long you exercised...it can be more than 30 minutes, but must be at least 30 minutes), and a description of what students completed for a workout/exercises.
c. By students submitting 3 log entries a week, students will receive 6 points for their log entries.
d. Students will receive an additional 4 points for getting it in on time each week (4 + 6= 10 and a 10 =100%)!
e. Log entries that are submitted one week late, will automatically lose 2 points for that weeks log entries, making it that an 80 is the highest grade that can be received for that weeks log entries.
f. Log entries that are submitted two weeks late, will automatically lose another 2 points, making it that a 60 is the highest grade that can be received for that weeks log entries.
The components students will be graded on will consist of:
1. Submit log entry #1 that includes the time, length, and full description of what exercises/workout was completed (*Worth 2 points of the 10 points).
2. Submit log entry #2 that includes the time, length, and full description of what exercises/workout was completed
(*Worth an additional 2 points of the 10 points).
3. Submit log entry # 3 that includes the time, length, and full description of what exercises/workout was completed (*Worth an additional 2 points of the 10 points).
4. Completing and submitting 3 log entries on time by Friday of each week (*Worth 4 points of the 10 points).
EACH CLASS IS WORTH 10 POINTS
Earning 10 points = 100 points Earning 9 points = 90 points Earning 8 points = 80 points
