Weg van huis en zeden

I had been wanting to do this for years: to draw my contemporary interpretation of James Ensor's The Baths at Ostend (1890) by putting a large sized poster reproduction of it on the lightbox and retrace it. When we were all secluded during the covid-19 pandemic, I did exactly this, which resulted in an A1-sized bistre ink drawing on paper (2020). This drawing was already issued as a small poster the same year through Kunst Kiosk's Art-Shelter, supporting Ostendian arts at that moment. Shortly after, I asked Jan Ducheyne to write some poems based on Ensor's Baths, as to make a joint publication with my drawing. It took some while, but eventually, we published a limited edition of 100 poster copies (and 10 folded copies on slightly stronger paper in a signed envelope) somewhere around Ensor's 175th birthday...

Presented @ Ensorhuis and 't Kroegske, Oostende, with live reading by Jan Ducheyne, live music by Beeldenstormer and live drawings by me, Saturday the 19th of April 2025, from 5 pm till 23 pm on the two locations.
Paper poster, 59,5 x 42 cm, 100 copies (+10), digital print, 2025.
Copies available at Ensorhuis and 't Kroegske, Oostende.
