Seawanhaka Corinthian YC Optimist Race Team
SCJYC Optimist Year Round Racing Team
Welcome to the SCYC Optimist Race Team site
After 83 years of building our junior club summer program into a place where our juniors made their first steps into sailing, we feel that this is the right moment to go further into supporting them, and continue running our own year-round Optimist Race Program.
Sailors have the ability to sail year round at Seawanhaka, travel to local and national regattas and develop their sailing skills as far as their desire will take them.
Since we expanded our summer program, Seawanhaka hosts practices in the Fall and Spring, and sends teams and coaches to several major regattas each season. In addition to allowing for more time on the water, Fall and Spring programs will allow sailors to practice in wider variety of conditions than the ones typically seen in the summer at Oyster Bay, as well as help them retain and continue to develop skills that will allow them to compete at the top level.
The mission of Seawanhaka's Corinthian Yacht Club Optimist Race Team is to introduce young sailors to the joy of sailboat racing in the optimist class and to teach them how to become better racers, not before becoming better persons.
The program strives to instill a respect for the sea and a realization of the value of teamwork, cooperative learning and a good sportsmanship.
