SEctor Adaptive VIrtual Early Warning System for marine pollution

Project description

SEAVIEWS: “SEctor Adaptive VIrtual Early Warning System for marine pollution

aims at creating a network dedicated to the prevention of the diffusion of marine pollution of the Adriatic-Ionian Sea. Marine pollution in coastal waters could lead to diffusion of pollution in deep sea waters and vice versa. The project will incorporate into a network structure the adaptive virtual early warning system, stakeholders from the relative industries and associate partners from the civic society and deliver a strategic action plan addressing the main hazards leading to diffusion of marine pollution.

The project aims to connect stakeholders from the participating countries (Greece, Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro and Italy), to educate them and built cultural awareness about the marine pollution. Two main groups of stakeholders have identified and will collaborate so to create a transnational network that will monitor water quality. For efficient information, the network will assess data from both stationary and moving sources. For this purpose marinas and fishing industry have been selected accordingly. The key role playing industries will be connected through the network sharing information regarding water quality in order to prevent marine pollution.

The final output will be the strategic action plan in cases where large or smaller scale events are about to happen. The action plan will include the operation of an application and/or web based tool receiving real-time data from the transnational network of fishermen and marina operators. Thus, the shared information between the participating countries will improve the response to oil spills and other polluting factors.
