Mom Prom Event Planner 2025 -Current
Born and raised in the Greater Seattle Area, I have always called the PNW my home. I pretty much fit the stereotypes too - I love coffee, being outdoors, listening to the rain, enjoying craft beers, and refuse to use an umbrella.
In my (very little) spare time I enjoy drawing, reading, playing games, exploring somewhere new, and going dancing. I currently have one daughter, but fun fact, there is another on the way! If you attend Mom Prom in 2026 - I will be the lady that is 12 days away from her due date 🤯 I refuse to miss the first Mom Prom I am helping organize. Hopefully my baby agrees with me and doesn’t come early!Â
When I first heard about Mom Prom, I was at a Parent Baby Group. Myla showed up and explained this incredible and awesome event that sounded like the best night ever. I didn’t make it that year, but went the following year. It wasn’t until I was at the event that I learned it was going to be the last one. Immediately I looked at Sam and Joscelyn and said “We can’t let that happen. This event is too magical. I refuse to have this be my last Mom Prom” and well, here we are! Keeping the magic alive for all of us ladies who deserve a night out.

Born and raised on the Eastside, I currently live in Monroe with my husband and two year old son. Balancing work, motherhood, and some semblance of a personal life has been a challenge. I love being a mom, but it's exhausting and terrifying.
When I find spare time I love to draw, do random craft projects, sing, salsa dance, and work on home improvement projects. I'm trying to make more time for self care and things that bring me joy, but that's definitely still a work in progress.
I've struggled with anxiety and depression since childhood and thought I'd be safe from postpartum depression/was anxiety because I was already on medication and receiving regular therapy. Boy was I wrong. With the help of my mental health providers, my parent baby group at Evergreen, and the PS WA Warm Line I was able to get my symptoms back under control and start enjoying motherhood.
I learned about Mom Prom when Myla came to speak at my parent baby group (where I also met Alena and Sam, two amazing women I'm lucky to call friends). I didn't make it to Mom Prom my first year as a mom, but was determined to make a night of it the following year, and I did. I had so much fun dancing and just being Joscelyn for the night. I knew this event had to continue, we moms need a night of freedom to look forward to when things get tough. I am so grateful to Myla for creating Mom Prom and for trusting us to carry on her legacy.Â

I’m a mom to one busy, opinionated toddler boy and a Canadian transplant from Vancouver, BC. I live in Redmond and love taking advantage of all the Eastside has to offer - the greenery, the lakes, parks, and just so much to do with a kid that never stops moving.Â
Motherhood has been the absolute coolest challenge - but parenting is hard, and hormones are a bitch. This journey tested my strength and resilience in ways that had me saying “ok! That’s enough character development for me please!!”Â
By the time baby boy arrived, I couldn’t have been more relieved to hold this incredible critter in my arms. Despite feeling such immense love for my little guy, I suffered from intense postpartum depression for the first 6 months of my son’s life. I remember waking up one day and the fog had lifted enough for me to realize how bad it had gotten - how underwater I felt. Thanks to the support of my family and friends, and a scolding from my family doctor I’ll always be grateful for, I started seeing a phenomenal therapist regularly. Things got lighter, and I found more joy. I’m so grateful that groups like PS WA exist to support moms through the insane transformation that is motherhood.Â
The first time I heard about Seattle Mom Prom, it was when Myla dropped in to speak at my Evergreenhealth Parent-Baby group meeting. She was awesome - funny, real, we talked about all the changes that happen in your life, body, and relationships when you have a baby. Mom Prom sounded like an absolute dream, but my son was 2 months old, and I couldn’t fathom leaving him at home for the evening, or even finding energy to dance. Thankfully, I was able to attend my first Mom Prom in 2025 - which, as you know, was supposed to be the last. We knew we had to continue this tradition. Mom Prom is pure joy - we get to celebrate moms, but just be people for the evening with no expectations attached. We dance how we want, dress up how we want, and show up for the incredible community of moms in Seattle, and support PS WA. I can’t think of a better cause to support.
Mom Prom Founder &
Event Planner from 2010-2025
Myla Rugge is the heart and soul behind Seattle Mom Prom. For the past 15 years, she brought thousands of women together for a night of fun, connection, and celebration. What started as a spark of inspiration while rocking her 3-month-old son to sleep, has grown into a beloved annual tradition.
That late-night idea wasn’t just about music and dancing. It was about something deeper. She immediately grabbed a post-it note where she jotted down her vision:
Normalize the struggle. Honor and celebrate moms. Have fun.
That guiding message continues to shape every detail of Mom Prom today. (By the way, we still have that post-it note!)
Inspired by the strength, style, and spirit of her favorite superhero—Wonder Woman—Myla believes in the power of women showing up for each other. Whether she’s hyping you up on the dance floor or helping a new mom feel seen, Myla is a fierce advocate for connection, joy, and community.
As Myla passes the glittery Seattle Mom Prom baton to new hands, we want to say thank you - Thank you, Myla, for 15 years of letting loose, creating unforgettable memories and giving moms a place to feel connected. Your vision created more than a party, it built a movement. Your legacy will continue to shine for years to come!
