The US has one of the safest vaccine supplies in history. Most vaccine recipients experience no side effects, however they can occur, as with any medication. Very rarely, people experience more serious side effects, like allergic reactions or shoulder related injuries.
In those instances, the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) allows individuals to file a petition for compensation.
Vaccine Injury Settlements and Compensation Awards Topped $240 Million in 2021.
Vaccine injury lawyers obtained a $4.5 million vaccine injury settlement with an expected lifetime payout of $11.6 million on behalf of a 24-year old woman who developed Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) after receiving a flu shot.
The client, from Lehigh County, PA was 20 years old when her employer, a local hospital, required her to get the flu vaccine. Within a week, she began experiencing flu-like symptoms including numbness, tingling, burning and weakness in her lower extremities. A few weeks later, her vaccine reaction became more severe. She returned to the hospital and was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). After a lengthy stay in the hospital, she was admitted to a rehabilitation facility, where she remains today.
GBS is an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system, causing various degrees of paralysis.
Physical therapy can help lessen the effects of GBS, but there is no cure for this condition. Four years later, Behie has regained the use of her arms, but is still unable to walk.
GBS as a reaction to the flu vaccine will only affect one or two people for every million that receive the vaccine. For those individuals who develop GBS from the flu shot, the government has established the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.
If you are injured as a result of a vaccine, talk to a lawyer about filing a vaccine lawsuit and if you are eligible to receive compensation for vaccine-related injuries.
