If you are not looking for specific sources but want to find scholarly literature on a topic for your paper, there are some databases that you can use. For example, the database MLA International Bibliography is useful for finding linguistic and literary research (Introduction to MLA International Bibliography) and the database Linguistics Collection is useful for finding linguistic research (Introduction to Linguistics Collection). You find these two databases and other resources in the library's subject guides for different language studies.
In some databases there are links to journal articles and books in full text. If you are unable to obtain a scholarly journal article or academic book in full text via a database, you can follow the instructions below for finding specific books and articles.
If you want to obtain a specific academic book, you can try finding it as a printed book or ebook in Summon. If you are a distance-learning student living in Sweden, you can get books sent home by placing a hold on them in Summon and choosing "Home delivery". In addition, you can check whether you can obtain the book in full text for free on the publisher's website or via Google Scholar. If you live outside the municipalities of Falun and Borlänge, you can also check whether a local library has the book. If you are looking for a chapter from an edited book, you have a greater chance of finding it if you search on the title of the book rather than on the title of the chapter.
If you are unable to obtain a book via the previously mentioned ways, you can make an interlibrary loan request, which means that the library can then try to borrow a printed copy of the book for you from another library. If you live outside the municipalities of Falun and Borlänge, you should make interlibrary loan requests via your local public library. As public libraries in Sweden can often only borrow books from Swedish libraries, you can first check in LIBRIS whether a printed copy of the book is available at a Swedish library before you make an interlibrary loan request via your local public library.
You are also welcome to send in purchase suggestions of books to Dalarna University Library. If you want to obtain a specific scholarly journal article, you can try finding it in full text via Google Scholar and Summon. If you unable to find the article in full text, you can order a copy via the university library, provided you live in Sweden. For more information, see Request books and articles.
