In my time at Sudbury, I have studied for formal qualifications. While the vast majority of what I've learned in my time here doesn't come with a certificate or official qualification, these formal qualifications support my goal of going to music college.
IGCSE
I spent a large part of my fifth year in school studying for IGCSE examinations. I studied Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, and Italian (Second Language). I sat exams in April and May of 2023, and received the following results:
Italian - 9 (A*)
English Literature - 7 (B/A)
English Language - 6 (B)
Core Mathematics - 5 (C) (Core Mathematics grading only goes up to level 5. In order to obtain a 9 I would have had to sit Extended Maths. Ironically, Maths was my best and most confident subject)
A Levels
After sitting IGCSE exams, I decided to move onto A levels. Having four subjects at GCSE, I would need two at A level to have a Leaving Cert equivalent. I chose to study Music and Thinking Skills at A level.
I found a great online music course with Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, which covers composition, harmony, and the study of set works/famous pieces of music. Thus far the course is going extremely well, and I am set to sit my A level examinations in June 2025. Although this course is external to Sudbury, I have been supported by the school by having been allowed to take "activity days" to stay at home and study. This means that the School Meeting recognises the course that I am taking, and makes an effort to support me by allowing me to take days of school, recognising them not as personal/sick days, but simply as me being a student directing my own education, off site.
Similarly to my IGCSEs, I study Thinking Skills in school, and work closely with a staff member in order to prepare myself for my exams.
