The Seedance 2.5 clips shown here were made and posted by other creators, and we ran their published prompts on Hailuo 3 ourselves. That is also why the section where Seedance 2.5 loses is in this guide too.

Every public comparison between these two tools quotes vendor spec sheets that don't match reality. Those datasheets promise settings that fail or vanish as soon as you open the actual composer.
We took three Seedance 2.5 clips people published on X, along with the prompts they published with them, and ran those same prompts on Hailuo 3. We also checked both models' real settings against our own production configuration. You can run both models on the same prompt directly to see the difference for yourself.
Seedance 2.5, developed by the engineering team at ByteDance, makes single unbroken video shots up to 30 seconds long. Hailuo 3, built by the Chinese lab MiniMax, caps its single-shot output at 15 seconds.
A single 30-second shot changes how you plan your edit. If your scene needs 25 seconds of movement, a 15-second cap forces you to stitch two separate clips together.
Stitching two clips means matching lighting, objects, and posture across a hard seam. With a 30-second shot, the camera keeps moving without any cut at all.
You set clip lengths differently across the two tools. Hailuo 3 takes any whole second from 4 to 15 seconds, giving you 12 exact settings to match your timeline cuts.
Seedance 2.5 offers six fixed steps: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 seconds. If your edit needs an 18-second cut, you make 20 seconds on Seedance 2.5 and trim two seconds off in your editor.
Both models support the exact same six aspect ratios: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, and 21:9. That means six frame shapes for widescreen, vertical social feeds, or square posts.

The elevator prompt is a shot list timed to the second across 30 seconds. Hailuo 3 stops at 15 seconds, so it can only reach the first half of what that prompt describes.
Seedance 2.5 gives you three standard resolution steps: 480p, 720p, and 1080p. It doesn't output 4K on this preset.
Hailuo 3 renders at 2K, and only at 2K. There is no resolution choice to make on Hailuo 3, giving you a bigger frame that beats Seedance 2.5's 1080p ceiling.
If your delivery spec demands native 4K straight from the model, neither tool will produce it. On our platform, native 4K is reserved for the Seedance 2.0 preset.
For Seedance 2.5, 1080p is the hard ceiling. That means files intended for larger displays need upscaling in your own editing software.
Seedance 2.5

Hailuo 3
- Resolution: 2K, and only 2K. There's no resolution picker for this model, because there's nothing to pick.

Hailuo 3 delivers a bigger frame, Seedance 2.5 stops at 1080p, and if your delivery spec is the thing that decides, this row decides it.
Seedance 2.5 accepts up to 30 reference images, while Hailuo 3 takes a maximum of 9 images.
That gap in image capacity changes your prep work. With 30 images, you can upload an entire product catalogue, multiple character poses, and brand colour swatches in one go.
With 9 images, you've got to cut your visual list down to only key angles. Seedance 2.5 allows up to 30 MB per image across JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WEBP formats.
Hailuo 3 supports the same 30 MB file size across JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, and HEIF files.
Video reference allowances follow a similar pattern. Seedance 2.5 accepts up to 10 video clips from 2 to 30 seconds each, up to 30 total seconds and 200 MB per file.
Hailuo 3 accepts up to 3 video clips from 2 to 15 seconds each, up to 15 total seconds and 50 MB per file.
When looking at these caps, EvoLink, writing on 7 August 2026, pointed out that the route carries explicit, documented limits: "The H3 reference route has explicit, documented limits: up to 9 images, 3 videos, and 3 audio files."
Seedance 2.5 also gives you a 10,000-character prompt box. That lets you write long scene notes to go with your 30 uploaded images.
Hailuo 3 offers fewer visual slots, but balances that by taking an entirely different reference type.
Seedance 2.5

Hailuo 3

- Audio: Takes up to 3 audio files (15 MB each, 15 seconds total) when paired with visual references.
Hailuo 3 supports uploaded reference audio files, but Seedance 2.5 doesn't take reference audio at all.
This is the sharpest day-to-day difference between the two models. Seedance 2.5 generates sound on its own by default.
Seedance 2.5 can't take an external sound file to match. If you have an exact voiceover track, a sound effect, or a song, Seedance 2.5 can't listen to it.

Hailuo 3 lets you upload up to 3 reference audio files (a sound file you upload so the model matches it, rather than describing the sound in words) in WAV or MP3 format. Each file can run from 2 to 15 seconds, up to 15 seconds total and 15 MB per file.
You can't submit an audio file on its own. Hailuo 3 needs at least one reference image or video alongside your audio files.
This pairing lets the model match motion to the uploaded sound track.
Seedance 2.5
- Audio: Generates background sound by default but takes zero reference audio files.
- Reference Limits: Keeps external inputs strictly to image and video files.
Hailuo 3

When tested across shared prompts, the two models show clear differences. Industry reviewers tracked how Hailuo 3 was received when it launched with its focus on visual detail.

Automated search summaries often get the settings for both models wrong. We checked the active platform settings on 2026-09-09 to clear up these errors.
First, search summaries claim Seedance 2.5 supports up to 10 audio reference files alongside 30 images and 10 videos. That's wrong.
Seedance 2.5 takes no reference audio at all. In our configuration checked on 2026-09-09, reference audio runs only on Hailuo 3 and Wan 3.0 routes. Seedance 2.5 has code limits only for images and videos.
Second, summaries say Hailuo 3 only makes clips at 5, 10, or 15 seconds. That's wrong too.
Hailuo 3 takes any whole second from 4 to 15. As verified on 2026-09-09, you can pick an exact 7-second or 11-second shot without forcing the model into 5-second steps.
Third, summaries answer the Seedance 2.5 half of its resolution row with a sentence about pacing instead of a number, and the articles around it fill that gap with 4K. The Overview's 2K figure for Hailuo 3 is correct - we publish the same number ourselves. But Seedance 2.5 offers clear choices of 480p, 720p, and 1080p, and no 4K.
Our configuration confirmed on 2026-09-09 that 4K belongs only to the Seedance 2.0 preset.

For vertical social posts, Seedance 2.5 holds the edge on duration. A single 30-second output covers a full hook, body, and call-to-action in one shot.
If your short relies on an exact voiceover track, Hailuo 3 is the right pick because Seedance 2.5 can't take reference sound.
Product ad
For product videos, Seedance 2.5 wins on image space. Its 30-image limit lets you upload product angles, packaging details, and lighting shots in one batch.
That keeps your branding consistent across the whole clip. Hailuo 3 works well for short 15-second product spots where a voiceover or sound effect needs to drive the visual reveal at 2K resolution.
Narrative film
For narrative projects, both models have a place. Seedance 2.5 works best for wide establishing shots and walking scenes that need up to 30 seconds of visual hold.
Hailuo 3 works best for dialogue scenes where movement must match pre-recorded speech.
If your main bottleneck is clip length, Seedance 2.5 is the tool to use. Making a continuous 30-second shot cuts out the time spent stitching and blending shorter takes.
You get a single consistent video file that stays intact across its runtime.
