Draft very much under construction
Dear {{Salutation}} {{Last name}},
Based on your involvement in {{your town’s EAC}}, I am reaching out on behalf of the Southeastern PA Single-Use Plastics (SUP) Coalition to inquire whether your municipality has interest in pursuing a ban on single-use plastics (checkout bags, straws, utensils, etc.) or in learning how other SE PA towns are working to reduce single-use plastics.
The SE PA SUP coalition was formed in 2018 and now includes representatives from over fifty municipalities. The coalition zoom-meets every other month to share information, give advice, and discuss strategies around proposing, implementing and enforcing single-use plastics ordinances. We have developed a regional guidebook and google library with helpful contacts, educational materials, survey templates, sample ordinances, etc. Our membership spans towns striving to develop a ban (often with serious challenges) to towns who have had a ban in place for multiple years. Our leadership includes Faran Savtiz from PennEnvironment and Logan Welde from the Clean Air Council, who are available for custom consultations on single-use plastics ordinances and other zero waste strategies.
If you are interested in our coalition, I am happy to set up a short orientation session and/or send you an invite to the next SE PA SUP coalition meeting scheduled for April 1st.
I look forward to hearing from you and please feel free to forward this message to any others in your community who you believe might be interested.
Thank you,
Your name on behalf of the SE PA SUP Coalition
Hello, City of Reading EAC,
I am reaching out on behalf of the Southeastern PA Single-Use Plastics (SUP) Coalition to inquire whether your municipality has interest in pursuing a ban on single-use plastics (checkout bags, straws, or/and utensils, etc.) or in learning how other SE PA towns are working to reduce single-use plastics.
The SE PA SUP coalition was formed in 2018 and includes representatives from fifty PA municipalities, with over 25 having successively implemented local SUP ordinances. Our main scope is SUP retail bag reduction, but this is evolving. The coalition zoom-meets every other month for status updates, strategy sharing and education. We have developed a regional guidebook and library with contacts, educational materials, survey templates, sample ordinances, etc. Our membership spans towns striving to ban SUP’s (often with serious challenges) to towns who have had a ban in place for years. Our leadership includes Faran Savitz from PennEnvironment and Logan Welde from the Clean Air Council.
If you are interested in our coalition, I am happy to set up a short introduction or/and send you an invite to our next coalition meeting.
Based on your website it looks like you have a vibrant environmental community and active EAC. Even if your current interest is low or long term, it could be beneficial for both parties to have a conversation. I have heard from Kathy Cook (copied) that the movie “Single-Use Planet” (below) will be shown in Reading.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope we can find time to introduce.
Thank you,
Don Hamp on behalf of the SE PA SUP Coalition
