The Schwartz Astronomical Society (SAS) is San Diego State University's student-led organization dedicated to spreading interest in astronomy to the general public. SAS is open to anyone interested in physics and astronomy. We meet every other Friday in P215 from 4 pm to 5 pm.
SAS President
Hi everyone, I'm Isaiah, the current President of SAS. I'm a fourth year astronomy major with a love for cosmology and the Big Bang. I'm also into stuff like basketball, gaming, and anime. Feel free to talk to me whenever you find me!
SAS Vice President
Hello hello! I am Jessica Doan, a third-year pursuing an Astronomy B.S. and the current Vice President of Society of Physics Students and SAS (previously the Treasurer). My academic interests are particle astrophysics and cosmic evolution. Don't worry, I also like things outside of space, like video games and cooking. Please don't hesitate to reach out to chat or for general advice!
My senior thesis explores the importance of cosmic inflation on the standard model of cosmology.
SAS Astrobiology Specialist
Astrobiology Club President
My name is Allie Dunkhase and I am the Astrobiology Specialist of SAS. I am a senior majoring in Astronomy and minoring in Evolutionary Biology, with a special interest in Astrobiology. This interest is what led me to create and be president of the Astrobiology Club, a subsection of SAS. I am currently doing my senior thesis performing simulations for the Europa Clipper mission, in collaboration with SDSU and the Center for Astrophysics at Harvard University.
SAS Secretary
Hi! My name is Sydnie Duckworth. I am the SAS secretary and a third-year Astronomy major and Mathematics minor. Being part of SAS has been an enriching experience, as I've found a community that shares my adoration for the cosmos and has opened doors to countless opportunities. I'm super excited to continue this journey with SAS and can’t wait to continue to meet more friends! :)
SAS Treasurer
Hi! This is Kyler Fung. I am the Officer of Recruitment. I am a Statistics and Accounting double major. Even though I am not an Astronomy or Physics major, I still enjoy watching celestial events. I enjoy watching basketball and doing anything that will keep me active. My favorite moment in SAS is when I talked with some upper classmen and professors about how we know the universe is expanding due to elongating red waves.

SAS Event Coordinator
Hi everyone, my name is Ian and I'm the Event Coordinator for SAS! I'm a second year astronomy major and a student in the Weber Honors College. I first got into astronomy when I was eight years old after reading a children's book about the moon. The main aspects of astronomy that the most interesting to me are black holes and neutron stars, the two most extreme objects in the universe. A fun fact about me is that I have been playing guitar for 16 years and can play 3 Metallica songs, including "Master of Puppets."
SAS Historian
My name is Alondra and I’m the historian for SAS! I’m a second year Astronomy major. I became interested in astronomy when I was 12 years old and I went to a planetarium for the first time. In my free time I enjoy reading, baking, and playing music.
