Education, job history, hobbies
I completed my BSc Honours Economics and MSc Honours Economics from the Punjab School of Economics, India, then moved to the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, India where I completed an MPhil degree. I then did a Masters and a PhD degree in Economics from the University of Toronto, Canada, completing my PhD in 1997.
My first academic job was at the University of Essex before moving on to Newcastle University. I have been at the University of Leicester since 2003. I have given several graduate courses in behavioral economics including at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, LMU Munich, and the Bavarian PhD program.
I am currently an external examiner for the Cambridge Economics Tripos degree and the Nottingham economics degrees. I have given invited seminars at Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Zurich, and in several other leading departments.
My main research interests are in fundamental problems in the theoretical and empirical foundations of behavioral economics. I generally tend to avoid minor incremental research problems. These have taken the form of research articles and books, which can be seen on the other parts of this website.
In my spare time I enjoy walks in nature, cycling, tending to my garden and sitting under the willow tree next to a babbling brook (picture at the top of this page), and watching sports particulary cricket and tennis.
