ADVISERS
The goal of the virtual leadership training event is to give advisers the opportunity to expand their knowldge of various components of FCCLA and have resources available to assist members in the many facets of FCCLA - the state and national website and portal, programs, projects, fundraising ideas, and Red Talk presentations to share, educate, recruit, recognize, and retain members. Red Talks have been pre-recorded and can be viewed “on demand” (time convenient for advisers and members) for all stakeholders.
We are trying to make the best of a difficult situation with all involved. Each school district is handling the pandemic in different ways so a decision was made to record the training sessions (Red Talks) so advisers could use the Red Talks to fit their chapter needs – for the classroom, an FCCLA meeting, or virtual assignment for students if they were distance learning. There is no registration cost for chapters. There will be additional activities and challenges added during the coming months, so please check back. After the Leadership Team trainings, projects will be posted on the site so chapters know what they are and where to find details. An e-mail will be sent out by Leadership Team advisers explaining projects also.
This is not the ideal situation, but the Board of Directors wanted members to have the opportunity to be involved. There are Red Talks for members and advisers. There are instructional videos, “how to” videos/guides, well-being videos to improve mental health during this time, etc. Additional videos, completed by alumni, will be added after October 4th. If there is a topic you would like to see added once the site is open, please contact the state office. This is a new endeavor and we want it to be a valuable resource for members and advisers. We have a lot of talented advisers and members. If you would like to contribute to the resources, we would love to share your input/expertise, even if member created. It could be something as simple as directions to create a digital presentation board in Publisher, information on using a new app that could be used in virtual projects/presentations, interactive games or icebreakers used in a virtual or in-person setting, a stress relieving activity a member or adviser found useful, etc. The sky is the limit! We want all members to grow and develop their leadership skills. Many of the service projects planned for this year will be virtual because of the circumstances – any ideas and resources to help members/chapters accomplish this daunting task would be appreciated by all stakeholders. We are preparing our students for the changes currently taking place in our society. Many businesses have found that they do not need a brick and mortar business location, so our students will be prepared for virtual business opportunities.
The site will be up and running the entire school year. Additional resources will be added as the year progresses. Remember, you can use the resources any time of day. There is a lesson plan for each video that has handouts/links that lets advisers know what is needed for the hands on activities included in the Red Talk video. This resource is for advisers and members of SD FCCLA.
