These goals and strategies were developed through a series of collegewide conversations (see links at bottom of this page). This proposal was approved by City College constituency groups in spring 2022, leading toward publication of an update to the college's Educational Plan in fall 2022.
All five strategic priorities are intended to guide college actions over the next seven years - there is no ranking or priority order. The institutional-level goals and strategies defined here will be operationalized across the college in documents such as the Enrollment Management Plan and Equity Plan, as well as in committee work plans and in Program Review and Area Plans for specific departments and programs.
Strategies:
Plan and implement enrollment management strategies for outreach and marketing, onboarding, scheduling, and retention
Use data to inform planning and monitor impact of activities on equity in student access and success in order to eliminate equity gaps
Strategies:
Create targeted support services that follow students from outreach to completion for groups of students with shared characteristics or affiliations
Support existing student hubs with enhanced signage and communications, and create additional spaces for faculty/student collaboration and opportunities for students to relax, study, and mingle
Recognize and celebrate successes and achievements in academics, athletics, programs and services throughout the college for students, alumni, and employees
Strategies:
Support dialogue and action on equity and social justice with access to quantitative and qualitative data
Develop and implement an updated college-wide student equity plan
The college will develop a Social Justice and Equity Commitment, using our shared governance structure, to guide planning and decision-making in all areas
Strategies:
Build partnerships with community organizations working on advancing issues of social and environmental justice, equity and inclusion. These partnerships support the work of organizations and student learning and development.
Intentionally develop curriculum that highlights social justice and equity work being done in the community that connects City College and students to that work

Strategies:
Embed sustainable, strengths-based, and student-centered practices within instruction and student support services
Emphasize student voice in identifying areas of need and engage governance bodies in designing and implementing changes

Complete development and staffing of the Professional Learning Center
Offer opportunities to explore discipline-specific effective practices to improve educational outcomes of students
Collaborate with SDSU Extended Learning and AFT to offer units for professional development to support faculty in applying for step/range career advancement
Create a resource base for recruiting and practices that ensure its use by all hiring committees
Goal: City College will build comprehensive professional development resources that support the college's plans for equity and student success and build capacity for achieving its social justice mission.
Strategies:
Offer opportunities to faculty to connect deeply and critically with new technologies, pedagogies, and innovations in service of more effective classrooms and forms of student engagement
Use data to better serve and support the diverse needs of students
Provide training on tools that integrate support for culturally and linguistically diverse students in and outside the classroom
Create communities of praxis grounded in social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion
Strategies:
Work with the City Foundation to offer an ongoing series of community engagement events to share information and raise awareness
Create partnerships and sponsorships that will expand paid internship opportunities for City students
Strategies:
Build and maintain an alumni database to support ongoing connections to City College
Engage alumni through campus events and communications
Expand scholarship and internship opportunities through alumni relations
Strategies:
Complete implementation of the governance structure revisions designed in the IEPI Committee Review Improvement Project, and evaluate regularly for needed adjustments
Define and follow consistent practices for sharing information about institutional decisions with the college community, including constituency and governance groups
Create an institutional culture where involvement in planning is a shared responsibility and integrated across all levels and processes
Ensure inclusive practices that better support participation from all constituencies so all voices are effectively heard
Strategies:
Break silos and work across departments, areas, and schools in order to fulfill goals and priorities within institutional plans including Student Equity and Achievement Program, Guided Pathways, AB 705 and Strong Workforce Partnership
Strategies:
Provide clarity and guidance to students on processes and systems for onboarding, entering a pathway, accessing support services, and attaining completion, transfer, or entry into a career
Invest in defining processes and creating tools in multiple modalities that build shared understanding, reduce barriers, and meet student needs
