Music Fundamentals:
Basic musical elements are explored: Lessons are designed based on weekly chronological progression from "Adult All-In-One Course" Level 1/(Please refer to Text/Materials used). Each musical examples are demonstrated and studied in detail. Emphasizing on problem solving of learning the piece, techniques, and musical expressions. Intended for each musical example to flourish to well-polished performance.
Dictation & Ear Training:
Students are to write down the notes on music staff, what they heard played by the instructor: a simple 4 bar melody in Treble Clef with simple rhythm based on the current class progression. The goal is to train for proficiency in listening and writing music.
Music vs Art
A Master piece of Art is paired with a Master piece of Music demonstrated in concert standard performance by the instructor. The weekly featured master art work is first introduced by a short video given the background and description, follow by a performance of a famous piano work which the instructor feels best paired with the art work. This portion is intended as a gift/ appreciation of art and music from the instructor to the class.
Piano Clinic/Masterclasses
This popular portion of the class is intended to bring individual attention to each student. Each SDCCD registered student will be grouped to rotate throughout the semester to demonstrate in front of the class. Students can choose any piece of music learned in class (within 3 min in length), and use their designated piano clinic time to receive one-on-one instruction in front of the class.
This master class setting is designed to benefit ALL that are present in class. A focused diagnose of learning obstacle will be explored and discussed for each student to better their playing skill; such as technique and interpretation of performance practice/style. Each allotted time is approximately 5 min depending on class size. Students often improves significantly having frequent "public" performances.
