Our Mission

Students Demand Action at UVA is the University of Virginia-specific chapter of Students Demand Action, a network within Everytown for Gun Safety created by and for teens and young adults, to channel the energy and passion of college-aged students into the fight against gun violence. Specifically, we organize to educate students, register voters, and demand common-sense solutions to this national public health crisis.

We are currently launching Students Demand Action at UVA's Mentoring and Community Connection Program, in which we connect UVA student mentors with at-risk kids in the Charlottesville area. We meet with kids 1-2 times a week to create relationships of support, accountability, and friendship in hopes to break the cycle of violence before it has a chance to begin. We would like to thank UVA's Gun Violence Solutions Project and Parents Program for supporting us in this journey!

We work to prevent gun violence because it is the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. Every day, more than 100 people are shot and killed and over 200 more are wounded. The daily toll of gun violence in our country doesn’t always make headlines, but this violence affects everyone, everywhere.
