This is the feedback for SD7502 course from students throughout the years.
Overall opinion of the course, Jul 2021
How well the students achieved the learning outcomes, Jul 2021
How much the students learnt from the course, Jul 2021
- The material that the course covers is a hot topic in the industry, and potentially intimidating to students who aren't familiar. The layout was structured to slowly introduce each part of python at a time, and continue to utilize these aspects of the language throughout the assigned work.
- Lecturer knows the course well and enable to do understandable demonstration on the lessons being taught to.
- The module was good because it focuses on all the machine learning we could learn. Trang has good technical skills and she know how to communicate ideas and ways of making the students understand the topic.
- I really enjoyed Trang's teaching style, it is very engaging and forces people to engage with the material. The course structure was great and I enjoyed submitting weekly during the beginning moving into a mid-semester project until the final project and assignment.
- Overall quite happy with the course and I can definitely imagine someone really enjoying it if they were wanting a career in data-science.
- The course content was good. The tutor was very supportive and has a very good knowledge of the subject.
- I think that this course was of great benefit for myself and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking at a career in software development or machine learning. I have always been fascinated with machine learning and AI creation and this course has given me the basic idea of the topic.
- The skills and techniques which was learned through this whole course will stay with me and will benefit me through my career development.
- Before this course I had no experience with machine learning and Python but now I know how to use models such as KNN, Linear Regression, and CNN to identify digits, predict and identify trends, and identify Māori symbols. I have gained a lot of knowledge in the field that I did not have previously and am excited to use it in the future and jobs.
- SD7502 Intelligent System Development is a very interesting course. I really enjoyed the recognition and classification of handwritten images and the prediction of housing prices. These functions will bring benefits into practice lives. I am very interested in image processing and classification, from collecting and processing image data, to creating and optimizing deep learning models. Then finally displaying them in the form of GUI so the images can be recognized. I found this is very magical and practical course.
- The course has been challenging and consumed more than I could compared to other papers I’ve had in the past. However, as the lesson goes on and the practical work for machine learning I’ve grown interest and thought about scenarios on how I can apply it to a real world after taking the course. Getting to deal with real-world data was most fun and interesting part as it felt like it was not as hard as I thought. I think I would like to learn more about machine learning and be part of a team that focuses on doing such tasks in the future.
- I have gained a lot of knowledge in the field that I did not have previously and am excited to use it in the future.
- Having an introduction to Python, a common language that is only gaining in popularity, was very interesting and could prove useful when entering the IT industry.
- What I found most interesting in this course was learning how the algorithms worked, and how real-world objects and images are converted into numeric data for processing and then used in algorithms to make predictions. Learning how to make predictions based off existing data was interesting to learn and implement.
- The most interesting thing I found during the course was understanding how computers can be used in a way that seems very human, such as training a computer to recognise symbols or digits in images. It has been very interesting to learn the techniques and models that enable this kind of intelligence. From a simple model like KNN to a more complicated one like neural network or CNN. This has been a very enjoyable part of the course and I am excited to learn more about this.
- For me the main highlight of the course was the use of real-world data in some of the projects throughout this course. The use of these scenarios very enjoyable, and a sneak peek at what machine learning and deep learning are capable of, and some of the applications for which they are used today. A close second is how the design of many intelligent systems isn’t so different from the design many other applications in other languages. In my mind neural networks and other AI had been built up to be incredibly complex to create. While that may be true when creating them from scratch, modern-day accessibility to machine learning and deep learning was very surprising.
- The highlights was definitely learning new skills and techniques. Python was a brand new language for me and also the way of analyzing datasets was a different approach to programming for myself as well. I was also able to benefit from the group project as I was able to see what kind of different approaches there are for the same solution.
- The class discussions were a highlight for me as I have always been a big advocate of discussion and brainstorming. I was able to see how other people view things from different perspective and also how there can be different ways of achieving the same results.
- I’m glad to have learn about the process of machine learning and how to apply those skills to real projects. I also think I’ve realized how important quality of data is for its use in Intelligent systems.
- Work hard and it pays off, keep up to date with all the labs and you'll really enjoy it.
- It is a very good course which covers very interesting and relevant topics regarding machine learning.
- I would encourage the student to take it if the student is interested to know more about machine learning and knowing Python coding.
