Greetings!
You are invited to attend the Youth Diversity Conference at Martha Layne Collins High School on September 1st, 2018. The inspiration for this conference came from the need for students in our school district to become intentional in planning for their future, planning for academic success, and instilling pride in themselves and their communities. Many students have worked diligently to make this event a success, but we need YOU there to do it!
The Conference schedule will be as follows:
- 9:00 to 9:30: Sign-in and breakfast
- 9:30 to 9:50: Welcome and introduction
- 10:00-10:50: Student's choice of session #1
- 11:00-11:50: Student's choice of session #2
- 12:00-12:50: Student's choice of session #3
- 1:00-1:50: Lunch and parent session
- 2:00 -4:00: Black Panther movie screening
- 4:10 -4:30: Short discussion of what we saw during the movie
- 4:35-5:00: Closing, prize give-aways, and post-survey completion
All sessions have been designed to cater to different age groups (elementary, middle, and high school) to ensure that the information is appropriate and relevant. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend sessions with their students throughout the day. In addition, there is also a parent session that will be led by school administrators with the purpose of discussing high interest topics such as how to support your student as they apply to college and navigating the new grading scales. This session will take place during lunch at 1:00pm. After lunch, all students and parents are invited into the auditorium to watch the film Black Panther and join in on a discussion of the positive imagery with in it.
The event is completely free to all participants. Breakfast and lunch will be provided and there will be give-a-ways throughout the day. We would love for you and your children to come and join us for a fun day of learning and growth!
