Prone to Saugus
Saugus is prone to hot, arid summers and cold, wet winters. The warm weather continues into the fall months and starts back up again during the spring and often comes with wind. This makes SCV susceptible to wildfires year-round but especially during the warmer seasons. The dry brush canyons, like those of Bouquet and Vasquez Canyon, of Saugus tend to attract wildfire during warmer seasons.
Escape to Safety
While we cannot control the weather, we can be prepared in the case of a natural disaster. One major issue that many SCV residents have is where to evacuate to when a fire is nearby and they need to leave their homes. Below will list local and safe evacuation sites available to its residents.
Saugus High School
Schools serve as great evacuation sites, especially high schools given the size of the campuses. They provide great shelter and are equipped with ample resources and necessities.
Central Park
While evacuating to a park is not the first thing many think of doing, it is a very smart and safe location to go to in the case of an evacuation. Choosing this location as a temporary evacuation location will allow many to be in a safe spot where they can calm down and think about what their next steps will be.
