Spring 2027: How to Register
CSC400 requires permission to register. Here's the process:
Talk to your academic advisor. If you meet the prerequisites below, your advisor can approve you to register directly. No application or proposal is required before registering.
Register by November 15.
Watch for an email around November 15 with the list of available projects and a short form to select your team and project preference. If you already have a team, you can list them on the form.
Team matching happens before Thanksgiving.
Submit your initial proposal by December 15. You'll have time to revise it before the semester starts. Missing this deadline will affect your grade for the course.
Can't register by November 15? Email Prof. Cain (cainn3@southernct.edu) and cc your advisor so you can still be considered for team formation.
First day of Spring 2027 classes: January 20, 2027.

Format: Online Synchronous, one evening meeting per week
Class Time: 2.5 hours per week
Project Work: 6-10 hours per week with your team
Presentations: Monthly progress updates, plus a final presentation
Final Deliverable: Complete project, documentation, and presentation

What if I can't register by November 15?
Email Prof. Cain (cainn3@southernct.edu) and cc your advisor so you can still be considered for team formation.
What if I don't have a team yet?
That's fine. The November 15 form matches you with teammates based on your skills.
What if I'm missing a prerequisite?
Talk to your advisor. Exceptions may be possible on a case-by-case basis.
What happens if I miss the December 15 proposal deadline?
It will affect your grade for the course.
Can I bring my own project idea?
Yes. You can also choose from available client projects or develop one with your team.
Where can I see the available projects?
The project list will be posted here as projects are confirmed through October and November.
What's a client project?
A real organization brings a problem they need solved. Your team works directly with them as the client, scoping the problem, building the solution, and delivering it by the end of the semester, the same way you'd work with a client in a professional setting.
Is this course graded?
Yes, with letter grades based on project deliverables, presentations, process, and the final report.
Is attendance mandatory?
Yes, especially for presentations. Regular attendance is required.
