During the summer of 2020, the following PL PD was provided in the Syracuse City School District:
K-2 Summer School: Teachers were guided through the preparation for project-based summer school. They were also provided support throughout the summer school schedule via office hours. Lead teachers were selected to design and facilitate the summer program with the support of the SCSD PL Team.
3-5 Summer School: Teachers were guided through the preparation for project-based summer school. They were also provided support throughout the summer school schedule via office hours. Lead teachers were selected to design and facilitate the summer program with the support of the SCSD PL Team.
6-8 Summer School: Teachers were guided through the preparation for project-based summer school. They were also provided support throughout the summer school schedule via office hours. Lead teachers were selected to design and facilitate the summer program with the support of the SCSD PL Team.
9-12 Summer School: Teachers were provided SCSD teacher-designed Canvas Courses to run a credit recovery program for the summer months. This program was supported by the SCSD PL Team.
Effective Video Conferencing: Maximizing Student Participation & Engagement: Secondary teachers were also offered the opportunity to participate in an asynchronous online course in which they: compared the nuances of F2F, synchronous online, & asynchronous online instruction, explored a variety of features in Zoom & Microsoft Teams that support engaging learners in synchronous online lessons, used online dins & exit tickets to assess student progress & engagement & adjust instruction based on data & student feedback, built a bank of engaging activities & strategies to use during live virtual instruction to support & engage learners, incorporated procedures & activities in synchronous online lessons to make them inviting, effective & engaging for students, and mapped out the first weeks of school. This PD was led by the SCSD PL Team.
Canvas Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced: Secondary Teachers across the district were offered the opportunity to participate in asynchronous coursework to learn how to best design and facilitate courses using the Canvas Learning Management System. Office hours were provided by the SCSD PL Team.
ITC Canvas Course Design: High School Teachers at ITC were offered in-depth and individualized Canvas training over the summer, including weekly 1:1 meetings with an SCSD PL Coach with the goal of creating a Canvas Course to use for remote and hybrid instruction this school year.
