James Carzon: James Carzon is a 5th year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Statistics and Data Science at Carnegie Mellon University. His research combines classical statistics with machine learning and artificial intelligence to tackle inference problems across the physical sciences, including astrophysics, high energy physics, and climate science.
Nuno Castel-Branco: Nuno Castel-Branco is a historian of science and Research Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford. Previously he held research positions at Harvard University’s Villa I Tatti in Florence and at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. He received an M.Sc. in Physics from Univ. of Lisbon and a Ph.D. in history from Johns Hopkins University. His book, The Traveling Anatomist: Nicolaus Steno and the Intersection of Disciplines in Early Modern Science, was published by University of Chicago Press in 2025. Dr. Castel-Branco’s scholarly articles have appeared in journals, such as Annals of Science, Early Science and Medicine, and Renaissance Quarterly, and his popular articles in such publications as The Wall Street Journal and Scientific American.
Maureen L. Condic: Maureen Condic is a Professor and Faculty Ombudsman at the Catholic University of America. Before that she was Associate Professor of Neurobiology at the University of Utah School of Medicine, with an adjunct appointment in the Department of Pediatrics. She received her doctorate from the UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on the role of stem cells in development and regeneration, and has been nationally recognized by both the Basil O'Connor and the McKnight awards. In 2015, she was appointed to the Pontificia Accademia Pro Vita, an international scientific advisory body to the Vatican. In 2018, she was appointed to the National Science Board, that oversees the National Science Foundation and advises both the President and Congress on scientific issues. Prof. Condic is co-author of Human Embryos, Human Beings (2018) and author of Untangling Twinning (2020).
Adam Hincks, S.J.: Adam Hincks is Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto where he also holds the Sutton Family Chair in Science, Christianity and Cultures at St. Michael’s College. He received his Ph.D. in Astrophysics in 2009 from Princeton University, and in 2020 received a Licentiate in Sacred Theology and a Masters in Theology from Regis College. In 2019 he was ordained a priest of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). His primary research area is observational cosmology, specifically focussed on the cosmic microwave background and radio intensity mapping.
Gregory F. Johnson: Greg Johnson is a computer scientist who has worked in both academia and industry. After receiving his doctorate at the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a specialization in programming language semantics and compilers, he served as a professor of computer science at Cornell University and the University of Maryland-College Park. He served as Principal Investigator for a multi-year DARPA-sponsored industry/academic collaboration in software engineering research. He is currently Principal Software Engineer at Zap Surgical Systems, a spin-off of the Stanford Medical School that is developing a new radiation treatment system targeting brain cancers and related neurological conditions.
James J. Lee: James J. Lee earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Psychology at Harvard University. The papers collected in his dissertation cover causal inference, genome-wide association studies, and cognitive-experimental approaches to the study of individual differences. He was a postdoctoral researcher in the Mathematical Biology Section of NIDDK/NIH from 2011 to 2013, where he worked on problems in population and statistical genetics. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota, affiliated with the Personality, Individual Differences, and Behavior Genetics area. He has recently become interested in pro-life ethics.
Ziyuan Meng: Ziyuan Meng is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Quincy University. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Florida International University. His research interests include programming-language-based security, AI vulnerability assessment and security, and the philosophy of computing with a system-theoretic/biomimetic focus. Passionate about computer science and cybersecurity education, Dr. Meng integrates technology with the liberal arts through an interdisciplinary approach that combines computing, philosophy, and theology.
Berta Moritz: Berta Moritz earned her Ph.D. in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Graz, Austria. She has served in leading roles in Clinical Research, Regulatory Affairs, and Patient Safety in both the pharmaceutical industry and academia. Her teaching experience spans a broad range of educational levels, from high school to graduate courses. Her particular interests include the dialogue between science and faith—especially within the Catholic intellectual tradition—as well as the history of science. Ignasi Rosell: Ignasi Rosell graduated in Physics from the Universitat de València (Spain) in 2002 and earned his Ph.D. on Theoretical Physics with the highest honors in 2007. His research focuses on Particle Physics, where for the last twenty years he has been using effective field theories in Quantum Chromodynamics at low and intermediate energies (Chiral Perturbation Theory and Resonance Chiral Theory) and in the Electroweak Theory (Electroweak Effective Theory). More specifically, he has worked in i) theoretical determinations of next-to-leading-order low energy constants of Chiral Perturbation Theory, ii) pion, kaon and tau decays, and iii) constraints on new-physics resonances by using a bottom-up approach within experimental information from electroweak oblique parameters, trilinear and quartic gauge couplings.
Robert J. Scherrer: Robert Scherrer is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Vanderbilt University, where he also served as department chair for 13 years. Before coming to Vanderbilt, he was on the faculty of the Ohio State University. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, separated by a stint as a Marshall Scholar at Cambridge University. Professor Scherrer's research is in the field of cosmology, including the physics of the early universe and the large-scale structure of the universe. He is also the author of a quantum mechanics textbook and a dozen short stories (science fiction).
Enrique Solano Márquez: Enrique Solano, president of the SCS Spanish chapter, is a senior scientist at the Centro de Astrobiología (CSIC-INTA, Madrid). His work focuses on astronomical data infrastructures and the scientific exploitation of large archives. He is the Principal Investigator of the Spanish Virtual Observatory (SVO) since 2004, a project with recognized international leadership in Virtual Observatory science. He played a key role in introducing and developing the Virtual Observatory framework in Spain and integrating it into the global community. His scientific output includes more than 170 peer-reviewed publications, along with extensive contributions to international conferences. He also actively contributes to outreach, citizen science, and training of young researchers.
Michael Tripepi: Dr. Michael Tripepi is an assistant professor of physics at Hillsdale College. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from The Ohio State University in 2022 for his work in nonlinear optics and laser damage. In addition to fostering student research in experimental optics, Dr. Tripepi is interested in the integration of physics within the vision of classical education. He has taught Hillsdale’s core curriculum physics course (“The Great Principles of Physics”) and seminars on a variety of topics including the relation between ancient and modern physics and C.P. Snow’s The Two Cultures.
