Red Energy Affluencies

An Affluency of Red Energy describes an unusual abundance of Red Energy condensed into an area, typically into the form of a moving channel. This is typically associated with powerful air currents created by atmospheric conditions on Scourge, creating rivers of wind rich with red energy.

Appearance

Affluencies can have significant observable affects on the atmosphere and the motion of floating islands. The air within an Affluency current can be drastically dry compared to the surrounding environment due the moisture being pressed out of the channel, creating a pathway which is startlingly devoid of clouds or islands. This creates a 'ravine' like structure in Scourge's cloud-rich atmosphere where a river of dry air is lined with flat 'cliffs' of pressed vapor.

Affluent currents can be as thick as a 4 kilometers and as long as many more. Several grand Affluencies, such as the <name>, are permanent structures that have existed and will continue to exist for thousands, possibly even millions of years. Other, smaller affluencies can form more hectically based on changing atmospheric factors, with some regions having seasonal currents which form only during certain times of the year.

Not all affluencies are moving in a current-like motion. The term can also be used to refer to unusual stationary condensations of Red Energy, such as that produced by the Red Sea Crystal, Asterisms, or even the Core itself. As a major source of energy for lifebearing systems on Scourge, Red Energy affluencies have massive affects on the local wildlife as well as geological and atmospheric formations.

Types

Source Affluencies

A "Source" affluency is an abundance of Red Energy produced by a large generating source, such as a large crystal. They can also be produced by an abundance of generating sources, such as in the case of Asterisms. This creates a stationary pool of Red Energy which is typically isolated to its own environment and can greatly influence the native territory.

The energy produced by the Red Sea Crystal, which reaps significant affects on the wildlife of the Red Sea and continent of Aphaura, is one such example of a significant source affluency.

Current Affluencies

Current affluencies are affluencies created by no single source of red energy but instead formed by atmospheric conditions condensing red-energy-rich air particles into moving channels. It is unclear exactly what atmospheric conditions cause current affluencies to form, and why they consist of abnormally energy-rich air particles as opposed to normal wind currents.

A handful of permanent or semi-permanent current affluencies can be found across Scourge. In addition to those, an uncountable and sometimes unpredictable number of minor affluencies can form as a result of changing atmospheric conditions, forming either spontaneously or, in some instances, as recurring seasonal events. One such example is the Poutheius River Affluency, which reliably reforms on an annual calendar for 80-110 days shortly before the peak of the core's Expansion.

Deposit Affluencies

Deposit affluencies are typically closely affiliated with current affluencies and are created as natural atmospheric motions of energy-rich air particles are deposited into a certain area. They are often formed by cut-offs or fluctuations in current affluencies where pockets of air become separated from the current, either forming a defined pool of unusual red-dense air or bleeding off into the environment. The deposits created by current affluencies can sometimes be likened to that of oxbow lakes or river floodplains, forming clouds or deposits in proximity to the channel.

Deposit affluencies are usually temporary phenomena as the particles forming them will begin to drift into the surrounding atmosphere. This can have harmful or beneficial affects on the local environment, such as by delivering a welcome abundance of energy or by poisoning the wildlife with a sudden excess.
