Scott D. Odell, PhD

About

Scott is an Assistant Professor on the Nan Alderfer Harris '51 Professorship in Environmental Studies at Bryn Mawr College. He works with students, communities, NGOs, companies, and government officials to explore community relations over critical mineral mining, within global economic and geopolitical contexts. His work focuses especially on the Andean region, with additional projects in the continental United States and the Arctic. He teaches courses on environmental studies, natural resources, and development. 

Scott's work has been funded by the Sloan Foundation, National Science Foundation (NSF), Inter-American Foundation (IAF), MIT Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS), and MIT Sloan Latin America Office (MSLAO). Prior to joining Bryn Mawr, he worked as a Program Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he also completed his postdoctoral associateship. He has also worked as an Assistant Research Professor at George Washington University, Program Associate at the Inter-American Dialogue, and Resident Tutor at Harvard University. 

Scott has a PhD and MA from the Graduate School of Geography at Clark University and a BSFS in Science, Technology, and International Affairs (STIA) from Georgetown University. He enjoys playing and listening to music, cross-country skiing, running, backpacking, cycling, and cooking with family and friends.
