About

The Scottish Cognitive Ageing Network (SCAN) was established in 2022, aimed at formalising and building on cross-institutional links in cognitive ageing research across Scotland. Meetings have comprised a varied selection of short talks and the opportunity for discussions. We also operate an email distribution list for sharing news such as conferences, local talks, etc.

There are currently over 80 academic members in the Network, from PhD researchers to Professors, based across Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, Stirling, and Strathclyde universities.

SCAN aims to meet twice per year, with the meeting location moving around the participating institutions. We plan to: enhance members’ familiarity with cognitive ageing research and associated methods/facilities at different institutions; raise awareness of current trends and developments in cognitive ageing research; foster local collaborations, from co-supervision of PhD research to large research grant submissions; and develop co-authored papers, particularly collaborative research or opinion pieces.
