Scott Hughes is running for San José City Council District 9 to bring experienced, responsive, and community-rooted leadership to City Hall. Backed by neighbors, small business owners, and local leaders, Scott is trusted because he listens, follows through, and delivers results. With over a decade of hands-on service in our neighborhoods, he knows the people, their stories, and the challenges we face together.
For more than 12 years, Scott has worked side by side with District 9 residents to navigate city services and champion projects that have made our neighborhoods cleaner, safer, and more vibrant.
Scott was instrumental in founding the District 9 Leadership Group, which aims to give neighbors a stronger voice in city decisions.
Scott facilitated the development of a new neighborhood park, the Thousand Oaks Park Woodland Area.
Scott personally worked with unhoused residents along Cherry Avenue and the Guadalupe River to help relocate them into housing, paving the way for a new tiny homes community.
Scott has led and organized multiple clean-ups along the Guadalupe and in our neighborhoods and parks to keep our community safe, clean, and improve our collective quality of life.

Scott knows District 9’s top issues because he’s been on the ground addressing them: tackling homelessness and blight, improving traffic and pedestrian safety in school zones, fighting speeding on neighborhood streets, and ensuring our parks and infrastructure are well-maintained. He has supported initiatives to strengthen public safety, expand affordable housing, and support local small businesses—always with responsiveness and accountability at the center of his work.
Beyond City Hall, Scott has spent over 15 years as a youth sports coach, mentoring young athletes across San José and the South Bay. Whether on the field or in the council chambers, Scott believes in empowering others, fostering teamwork, and always showing up for his community.
Scott is a proud "girl dad" of two; his daughter, Lauren, is married to a firefighter, and his younger daughter, Lexi, is a school teacher in the Union School District. Like many families in District 9, Scott wants San José to be a place where children can grow up safely, seniors can stay in the community they love, and families at every stage of life can thrive.
Scott’s campaign is grounded in transparency, accountability, and action. He isn’t running to learn the job; he’s been doing the work for over 12 years. With responsiveness, trust from neighbors, and unmatched experience, Scott is ready to get to work on day one.
