Scott Dickinson
About Me
I am a PhD Candidate at the Department of Economics at the University of Exeter in the UK. I am currently visiting the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne until mid-June 2025. I am looking for jobs on the academic job market in 2024-25
I work at the intersection of behavioural economics and applied econometrics. I typically use large, observational datasets and causal inference methods to study belief formation and belief updating. I also work on projects related to dynamic panel data and novel statistical biases.
In my job market paper, I study how humans update their beliefs and make decisions under uncertainty using data on elite sports. I find that fans optimally weigh past athlete outcomes when making predictions about future outcomes. This behaviour is consistent with rational belief updating.
