UVU Arts Engage Professional Development
Utah Valley University continuing education offers this class for elementary educators. The class is funded by Art Works for Kids. Teachers receive materials and instruction to teach basic drawing with pastel chalk and charcoal as well as ideas for supporting the development of reading skills.
Classes are taught one Saturday a month, but are currently suspended due to COVID. To get on the email list contact Deb Escalante at descarts@gmail.com

Utah Valley University also offers this workshop in the Arts Engage program teaching teachers to augment classroom discussions with visual representations of student thinking. Mind mapping that includes explicit learning outcomes and is applied as a formative assessment is a powerful instructional tool. Mind mapping propels student thinking and expression into deep understanding and real life application.
