Lighting Matters
Lighting had a significant impact on the overall quality of the render. In the early attempts, the lighting and background colour didn’t complement each other, which made the character feel flat and poorly integrated into the scene. Through feedback and guidance, I was able to make more informed decisions that greatly improved the final presentation.
Posing to Reflect the Character’s Personality
The initial poses lacked intention and failed to reflect the character’s personality, resulting in a static and unengaging presentation. By taking the character’s traits into account during posing, I was able to convey more life and energy, while also showcasing the joint functionality and rigging work more effectively.
Props Enhance Presentation
Originally, I used a basic cube to support the character and demonstrate range of motion, but it added little value and felt disconnected. By investing a small amount of time into creating simple props that fit the character’s design, I was able to improve the overall presentation and give more context to the pose and motion.
Creation of Infinite Background Plane
I created a curved plane that seamlessly blends into the background, using a low-saturation colour. This setup provided a clean, neutral backdrop ideal for showcasing the character without distractions.
HDR Lighting Source
An appropriate HDRI (High Dynamic Range Image) was selected and positioned to simulate natural lighting. This added realistic reflections and ambient light to the scene.
Posing the Character
The character was posed to reflect his mischievous, teenage, "bin-chicken eshay" personality. A Macca’s-themed prop was added to enhance storytelling and reinforce the character's identity.
Three-Point Lighting Setup
A three-point lighting system was used in an attempt to create a visually appealing beauty shot. Complementary colours and balanced saturation levels were chosen to match the character’s colour palette and the background, contributing to a cohesive final image.
Test Render Shots
Low-resolution test renders were created to evaluate composition, lighting, and colour. This allowed for quick adjustments and comparisons to find the most visually effective setup.
High-Resolution Rendering
Once satisfied with the overall look, the final image was rendered in high resolution, ready for portfolio presentation.
