Physiotherapy is a science-based profession and takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and well being, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle. Physios use their knowledge and skills to improve a range of conditions associated with different systems of the body.
At the core is the patient’s involvement in their own care, through education, awareness, empowerment and participation in their treatment. Our treatment is based on research using different techniques and forms of active treatment that have been show to be more effective than just passive treatment (massage, manual therapy).

Do you know?
Low back pain is a very common health problem worldwide and a major cause of disability - affecting performance at work and general well-being. Low back pain can be acute, sub-acute, or chronic. Several risk factors have been identified, including occupational posture, depressive moods, obesity, body height and age.
Some studies suggest that the lifetime prevalence of non-specific (common) low back pain is estimated at 60% to 70% in industrialized countries (one-year prevalence 15% to 45%, adult incidence 5% per year). The prevalence rate for children and adolescents is lower than that seen in adults but is rising. Back pain is the largest single cause of disability in the UK, with lower back pain alone accounting for 11% of the total disability of the UK population.
