Who we are
We are a local family run farm that provides a safe and unconventional way for children to experience farm life. We truly believe that a child has many capabilities that are never realized. My mission is to provide a safe and unconventional place for children to build self-esteem and accountability. I allow a place for them to explore nature, farm life, and education on caring for livestock. They also learn how our food is grown in our vegetable garden and orchard. I believe the fundamentals of life have been lost somewhat in traditional education, and I have a yearning to provide that teaching to children.
Meet the Team
Thank you for visiting Scissortail Farm’s website. I have been a teacher for over 20 years and have an undying passion for livestock and children.. I have been riding horses since I was 5 years old and have worked with livestock all throughout my college years.
I first started out as a teacher’s assistant for a Therapeutic Riding Center in Edmond, Oklahoma. During college I worked on as a wrangler on ranches in Colorado and became a Ranch Manager on a dude ranch in Tennessee. After getting married, we moved to Chicago where I was a Show Jumping Instructor. My husband, daughter and I moved overseas for a year for my husband’s job. We have now settled on 40 beautiful acres in the Loudoun Valley in Round Hill, VA where we work our family farm.
I have been riding and working with horses for over 30 years. My work with other livestock came during my college years while being on ranches in Colorado, New Mexico, and Tennessee.

Hello everyone! I am Scissortail Farm's Operations Manager. You will always find me around the farm for any needs. I am a full time student at Virginia Tech and I am studying Elementary Education with a Minor in Disability Studies. I have a passion for teaching and therapeutic teaching styles, which is why I love Scissortail. I also enjoy working with all our animals at the farm! Being able to be immersed in farm life teaches me so many skills I wanted to learn! I look forward to meeting you all on the farm.
Winnie is our therapeutic riding and lesson horse. She is a kind soul with lots of love and patience for those learning about horses. She never stresses nor gets upset. She is a perfect horse.
Siggy is another friendly face on our farm. He enjoys giving hugs to the kiddos and playing with his ball. He is always there to show you where a nice shady spot is.
Meet the Farm Camp Volunteers

Rowdy and Lively are two friendly faces on the farm. They love to help out wherever's needed. Lively especially enjoys being around the horses ,while Rowdy would prefer lassoing.
