"How to book live music band, string quartet or piano ensemble for my wedding"
*Tips & Tricks*
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I book musicians for my wedding ceremony or reception?
It's advisable to start looking for musicians 9-12 months before your wedding. Although well-established bands and ensembles often book up to two years in advance, we at SCIO strive to accommodate last-minute bookings whenever possible.
How can I find a top-quality professional ensemble or band for my wedding or event?
The best resource is the internet. Websites like Gigmasters.com, TheKnot.com, WeddingWire.com, and GigSalad.com are excellent for finding talented musicians. Listen to their music samples and watch their videos online to get a feel for their style. Once you find a group you like, inquire about their rates and availability via email or phone.
What is the best ensemble option for my event?
A String Quartet (two violins, a viola, and a cello) is a versatile choice, suitable for both classical and contemporary music. For a more budget-friendly option, consider a String Trio (two violins and a cello, or a violin, viola, and cello), which can offer a similar range of music, though with slight variations in sound.
What type of ensemble is recommended for my event?
The ideal ensemble depends on the size of your event, the venue, and your specific music preferences. We're here to help you choose the best fit for your special day.

Should I select music for the ceremony?
Yes, and we're here to assist you in selecting the perfect music for each part of your ceremony, from the Prelude to the Postlude.
Can I request a special song or arrangement not in your repertoire?
Absolutely! We're happy to accommodate up to two special requests free of charge, barring any copyright restrictions.
What time will musicians arrive at the event location?
Our musicians will arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the contracted start time.
What is the musicians' dress code?
Our standard dress code is formal black, unless otherwise specified.
Do musicians need any special arrangements for setup?
We only require four armless chairs for setup.
What if it rains during my outdoor event?
Our instruments are highly valuable, so we require shelter from rain or direct sunlight.
What duration should I request for Prelude Music if my ceremony starts at 3pm?
Prelude Music typically lasts 20-30 minutes, so booking SCIO from 2:30pm would be ideal.
What if I want SCIO to perform overtime?
We cannot always guarantee availability for overtime, but please feel free to inquire with the group leader shortly before the performance concludes.
When is the final payment due?
The final payment is due on the day of the event. You can pay via cash, check, or Venmo.
Should I provide the final payment before or after the performance?
The payment can be made either before or after the performance, but it should be settled no later than three days post-performance.
Can I pay the remaining balance with a credit card or personal check?
We accept personal checks on the day of the performance, but we do not process credit card payments.
What is the standard gratuity per musician?
The usual gratuity ranges from $25 to $50 per musician, depending on the duration and complexity of the performance.
