Nutritious, Economical Solution for Reducing Growth Impairment
Induced by Early-Onset of Type 1 Diabetes
Despite modern insulin therapy, children with onset of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) before pre-pubertal age still experience body growth impairment, affecting their adult height. Studies shown diagnosed children often have a lack of the gut microbe, Bifidobacterium infantis (B. infantis), which is found to be associated with the susceptibility of the disease.
The purpose of this project is to explore a natural and cost-effective method to potentially prevent, or to delay the onset of the T1D, in order to avoid hyperglycemia-induced growth impairment in children.
