1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how the ScienceDirect Offline Research Workspace mobile application (the "App") collects, uses, and shares information when you use it. The App is built for offline-first reading, organizing, and annotating locally stored research-style content, and may use third-party advertising technology as described below.

2. Who is responsible

For data stored only on your device, you (or the organization that gave you the device) control that data. For information processed by advertising partners when ads are shown, those partners act under their own policies and, where applicable, as independent controllers or processors as described in their documentation.

3. Information the App may process on your device

Depending on how you use the App, the following may be stored or processed locally:

We do not sell your personal information in the conventional sense of selling a customer list. Advertising may use identifiers as explained in Section 5.

4. Internet access and core features

The App requests network access so that advertising services can load and display ads (for example banner and rewarded formats). Core reading, local search, and library browsing of bundled or local content do not require you to sign in; however, when the network is available, the advertising software development kit (SDK) may contact its servers to deliver ads, measure delivery, and help prevent fraud.

5. Advertising (Google Mobile Ads / AdMob)

The App uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob), which is provided by Google LLC (or its affiliate, depending on your region). When ads run, Google may process data such as:

Use of this data is governed by Google's policies, including the Google Privacy Policy and, where applicable, Google's Advertising policies.

6. Security

Keep your device operating system updated, use a device passcode or biometric lock where available, and install the App only from trusted sources. Anyone who can unlock your device may be able to access data stored locally by the App.

7. Retention and deletion

Local App data generally remains until you delete it in the App (where available), clear application data, or uninstall the App. Uninstalling may remove local application data depending on your platform. Data held by Google or other ad partners is retained according to their policies and tools.

8. Children's privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age where parental consent is required in your jurisdiction. Ad-supported products may apply additional age-related restrictions under Google policies. If you believe use by a child is inappropriate, contact the publisher of your copy of the App.

9. International users

Ad requests may be served from or processed in countries where Google or its partners operate. Those transfers are subject to Google's disclosures and, where applicable, standard contractual clauses or other mechanisms Google describes in its privacy documentation.

10. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Each revision will update the "Last updated" line at the top of this document. Material changes may also be noted in release notes or in-app messaging where practical.

11. Contact

For privacy questions about this build, contact the publisher or distributor of your copy of the App, or your organization's IT administrator if the App was distributed internally.
