Dr. Angelina Hernandez-Carretero has a long-standing passion to broadening diversity in STEM, thus she participates in numerous programs to facilitate and execute actions towards this goal. Her activities include teaching, science research, outreach and mentoring (both in the classroom and in the laboratory). Research aims in her lab focus on understanding how key molecular players of fibrosis disrupt metabolic and glucose homeostasis under obese and (pre-) diabetic conditions. Projects are currently focused on insulin-targeted tissues including muscle, adipose, liver, and pancreas using molecular, cell biology, and genetic approaches.
