About Us

The iconic 107-year-old Scialo Brothers Bakery located in the heart of Historic Federal Hill closed in 2020 due to the pandemic. It was then reopened in 2021 by a set of investors who felt strongly about carrying on a legacy that became a staple of both the neighborhood and the state of Rhode Island.

Former Owners, Lois Ellis and Carol Gaeta took over their Father’s legacy in 1994. The two sisters ran the business until Lois passed away. Shortly after her passing, the pandemic hit, and Carol decided to close for good and sell the property in 2020. With the decision to put the building up for sale, she was aware a new owner could do anything with the property. Initially, the “Scialo” name was not for sale, nor the famous family recipes that were adored for over a century.

But the anonymous set of investors were not willing nor ready to let Scialo Bros. Bakery fade away, so they stepped up to purchase it for an undisclosed sum, with a couple of conditions. Those conditions being; they could re-open and operate under the same name, inherit the beloved recipes, and of course - the handcrafted brick ovens had to work.

Once the news broke that the iconic Scialo Bros. Bakery would end its 104-year-old run, the neighborhood was heartbroken along with many outstanding customers throughout not only the state, but the nation. But with time, the new Italian family and set of investors were able to repair those hearts, re-open those doors, and continue to carry on those famous recipes.

Today, we operate as if the doors were never closed. We are continuing the Italian Tradition and maintaining it as the staple of our Italian Neighborhood. Our story continues to be written. Cheers to the next 100 years.
