Schrödinger's problem and Optimal Transport: a multidisciplinary perspective

Weclome to the SchröMoka webpage. SchröMoka is a 3 years international research project in mathematics funded by FCT (the National Portuguese Science Foundation) for the time period 2018-2020 (extended untill 2022 dut to the COVID-19 pandemics). The project is based on a close collaboration and joint efforts between

  • The Portuguese group in GFMUL Lisbon

  • The French MokaPlan INRIA/CNRS/Paris-Dauphine research team

  • A. Galichon's team in New-York (Courant and NYU)

The scientific and financial management is based in Lisbon, Portugal

This is a project with a multidisciplinary perspective. The Optimal Transportation theory, revived over the last decade, has found applications in a growing variety of fields from tomographic imaging to statistical physics, fluid dynamics, machine learning or mathematical economics. The Lisbon component of the project has been pioneer in a theoretical stochastic approach whose efficiency for solving numerically problems in this area has been understood only recently. We are associated with MokaPlan, a French INRIA team who proved this efficiency, and a New York based group leadered by the author of the first book on Optimal Transport methods in mathematical economics. We develop in collaboration with Mokaplan theoretical methods not yet available for solving optimal transportation problems, using a probabilist approach suggested long ago by Schrödinger in Quantum Physics. And we shall apply these new techniques in all the fields covered by Optimal Transport.
