BAND 101

There are 3 families of instruments in band- woodwind, brass and percussion. Read on to see what family each of the common band instruments fall in.

Woodwind insturments consist of: Flute, Piccolo, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Saxophone (Alto, Tenor, Baritone), Oboe, and Bassoon. The most commonly payed in at the elementary school level are the Flute, Clarinet and Alto Saxophone

Brass instruments consist of :Trumpet, Cornet, Flugelhorn, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Baritone Horn, Tuba. The most common in Elementary School bands are the Trumpet and the Trombone.

Percusiion instruments consist of Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Timpani, Xylophone, Marimba, Vibraphone, Bells/Glockenspiel, Cymbals. Elementary School students often learn a variety of bells, skaers and drums when they first start.
