Plastic Reduction
Plastic Reduction
School One's Environmental Studies class has been working on a class project centered around plastic pollution in Rhode Island. We have been advocating for the passage of the Microplastics Reduction Act and Recycling Reform bills. We are also spreading awareness about the effects of plastic pollution & sharing ways to decrease your own plastic usage.
Advocate for the passage of the RI Recycling Reform Act (S3012/H7911) and Microplastics Reduction Act (S2534) and for the reduction of plastics consumption at School One.
Also known as The Bottle Bill, this act would incentivize companies to make more easily recyclable containers, reduce government costs, and motivate consumers to recycle.
The Microplastics Reduction Act
would prohibit manufacturers from selling or commercially distributing any product containing synthetic polymer micro particles (a.k.a. microplastics) beginning January 1st, 2030.
According to The Smithonian Science Institute, human beings have the equivalent of one plastic spoon worth of microplastics in their brains. These microplastics get into our bodies through what we eat, drink, and even wear. The microplastics can coat your neural pathways and have been shown to lead to Alzheimer's, dementia, and Parkinson's.
