As a part of the SchoolMadeEasy goal we want to provide all forms of resources to students. Although we are mainly an online platform with thousands of online resources we want to go even further. Every year students get a multitude of textbooks and workbooks that get thrown out after a year. This is both not environmentally friendly but also not considerate of students who can use said textbooks and workbooks but don't have access to them! In response to SDGs 4, 10, and 12 we are starting an initiative called One Book At A Time which aims to send out textbooks and workbooks to students who need them. Since this sector of SchoolMadeEasy is just starting it may be slow for the following weeks but we plan to expand to more communities towards the fall.
This initiative has two operation schemes being executed:
The first is similar to the Buy Nothing Project where students tell us what resources they have to donate and we connect them to students who need said resources. These textbooks can get to the student in multiple ways such as selecting a meet up location and time amongst the two students and having a drop off or the student with the materials can ship it to the receiver.
The second operation scheme is local to our founder's area: NYC. By going to schools directly we are able to get resources in bulk to then donate to shelters, other schools, and other students in the area.
Both of these schemes have been working extremely well thus far but we hope to expand even further in the future.
