The project unfolded in multiple phases. It began with a pre-forum where participants introduced themselves and learned about school librarians' current work with English Language Learners (ELLs). The main forum followed, featuring two distinguished keynote speakers. The keynote speakers were Drs. Stephen Krashen and Denise Adkins who shared research and insights on best practices for assisting ELLs. Several participants also presented their work. Supporting documents, including presentations, reports, and conference papers, are available below. Additionally, a YouTube channel hosts the project presentations.
The project's impact extended beyond the forum itself. Following the presentations, participants engaged in collaborative workshops to review and discuss the strategies learned during the pre-forum and forum. These workshops and webinars were designed to foster engagement with the project results and toolkit.
A post-forum evaluation phase was also incorporated, allowing participants to reflect on their learning and share how they planned to apply new knowledge in their respective institutions. This feedback loop proved invaluable for refining the toolkit content. Furthermore, the project toolkit and white paper provide the participants and other interested professionals with ongoing access to research, best practices, and innovative tools for working with ELLs. This toolkit continues to grow, serving as a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
