Support Kids In Need
About
School Essentials is a youth-led nonprofit organization (501 (c)(3) recognized) started in Pennsylvania suburb. It was during the back to-school-days when kids are busy buying school supplies and that realization of how many pencils and erasers have already been accumulated over the years - this realization coupled with reading business news on SriLanka and how the schools have been impacted by ongoing economic crisis initiated the drive to take some action and make a positive impact.
Further research into how economic crisis in a country directly impacts the school system where one has to make a choice between meals for the family vs sending kids to school deepened the call for action. We at School Essentials Drive would like to provide for such families beyond geographical boundaries while sharing the learning of the juxtaposition between economics crisis and education specifically.
Founder:
Aadit was always interested in Geography and fascinated by countries and their GDP per Capita numbers. An avid reader of current affairs, he was surprised to read news on Sri Lanka's economic turmoil and how widespread economic mismanagement and prolonged political corruption lead to an unstable government that defaulted on a massive debt – over $56 billion, according to the World Bank. A few months after reading this news, when Aadit was about to start his High School Freshman he noticed a bunch of school supplies lying around his room as opposed to children that couldn't afford to go to schools in Africa for the lack of the same. This observation soon morphed into School Essentials Drive.
