The story revolves around five grade XII students in a school in Kerala named Archa, Indu, Rima, Diya and Yamuna. Aarcha got covered in the news as her poem "Aksharamaalayil Amma" was going to be included in the Kerala state syllabus. They also try to make a difference by growing farm vegetables for the poor. They also come up with an idea of a "School diary" for students of their school. There happens different situations where in the friendship of five girls along with four boys are tested such that they will have to uphold their true friendship.

Kozhikode-based publisher 'Insight Publica' has published the translated version of the diary entries, which appeared on the BBC news website, to express solidarity with Malala, who is currently under treatment at a hospital in London after being shot on October 9.

Popularly known as the Anne Frank of Pakistan, Malala reported the problems under Taliban rule for BBC from 2009 under the pseudo name ""Gul Makai'. Her reports, in the form of the diary, invited the wrath of the orthodox community, especially the Taliban. She was shot in the head and neck while returning home from school.

Titled ""Malala Yousafzai: Oru Pakistani School Vidyarthiniyude Jeevitha Kurippukal (Malala Yousafzai: The Diary of a Pakistani School Girl), the book contents collection of her diary entries, interviews and the script of a documentary.

Not all childen are in the care of both parents: some, after remarriage, live with step-parents, and others, being orphaned, live with guardians, whether relatives or state-ordained.
