Artworks at the DAM include: American Vision Nominees, Jurors Choice Award, Senior Portfolio, Ceramics & Glass, Digital Art (Digital Displays), Drawing & Illustration, Expanded Projects, Film & Animation, Mixed Media, and Painting. All Honorable Mention Awards will be digitally displayed at both exhibition locations.

At Marist, Erin has been a student in Advanced Placement 2-D, Advanced Placement studio art, graphic design 1, and photography 1 and 2. She is a repeat winner and last year received 3 awards! You can read more about those awards here.

Berkshire has four Gold Key winners, including sixth formers Dalia Banevicius '17, an AP student in Digital Art who plans to study graphic design in college, and Simran Chatani '17, a three-year photography student. Both students also earned a Silver Key award as well.

The scholastic art awards offers recognition for students in 7th to12th grade, age 13 or older, in a number of visual arts categories including portfolio which is the only one for seniors only. The Awards open for submission in September of each year.

Not only will winning an award for your art make you feel that your artistic vision has been validated, but applying for, and winning a scholastic award means that college admissions representatives look very positively on applicants who have won the award.

Rules

Teachers may submit an unlimited number of submissions in 15 individual categories and up to three senior portfolio students with up to 2 portfolios each for a maximum of 6 portfolios. The individual categories include: architecture, ceramics and glass, comic art, design, digital art, drawing, editorial cartoon, fashion, film and animation, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. 


The Art Portfolio and Photography Portfolio categories have been combined. All senior portfolios are to be submitted under the Art Portfolio category. Seniors may submit up to 2 portfolios each, containing no more than 8 pieces each.

Students will dip their toes into the world of publishing-chapbook making. Participants will write and polish 4 poems and 1 short story or creative non-fiction, assemble their work into a portfolio, and publish it in a stylish, professional manner in the form of a print or digital chapbook. Students will be given a training in InDesign to create a completed chapbook.

Throughout the programs, students master technical and creative skills in digital photography, as well as web and business industry practices. Under the guidance of our faculty of professional photographers, students establish their unique style that can set them apart as photographers.

As NYFA strives to make education in visual storytelling and the digital arts accessible to the most diverse, international, and broadest spectrum of students, our Photography School is a welcoming community where students can collaborate and begin to build their creative network.

Our full-time, conservatory-based approach provides aspiring photographers the opportunity to complete hands-on projects which may include self-branding assets, their own photography book, as well as a virtual exhibition and as a portfolio of their best work.

This evening, part-time photography workshop teaches the elements of photography through constant shooting, editing, and critique. Students shoot assignments in multiple genres, which may include fine art, documentary, fashion, street photography, studio and location portraiture, editorial, advertising, and other commercial styles.

The Photography School at NYFA strives to offer an intensive and focused education that provides hands-on experience and practical training. The achievements of our NYFA alumni are the result of their hard work, perseverance, talent and circumstances, and after NYFA, many photography alumni have found success in the visual arts, pursuing goals in commercial, editorial, fine art and documentary photography, and also become Cinematographers and Content Producers in advertising, editorial, e-commerce, film, and media companies.

Seven WMCAT teen artists won 14 awards for their artwork in the 2022 Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition! Students created the recognized pieces in our Teen Arts + Tech Program. Congratulations to Katy Aguilar (photography), Marcos Barrera (photography), Peter Bowman (photography), Allison Groen (photography), Bridget Quail (photography), Angie Morales-Hernandez (photography), and Kamryn Wezeman (digital art, illustration, ceramics).

Artists and writers can create a Scholastic Awards account online, where they can digitally upload works or mail them in to the local affiliate (VisArts). If you are an educator, create your account to register your students. After uploading your work, you can print your submission form, have a parent/guardian and an educator sign it, and then submit or send your signed submission form and payment or fee waiver to VisArts.

The Animation/Interactive Design concentration blends traditional fine art disciplines with digital media. Coursework covers a broad array of digital applications and media, ranging from video art to game design and interaction design. Student gain experience creating digital environments, with 2D animation, character design, and game design.

The printmaking concentration introduces students to a broad range of techniques, fosters personal growth, and offers in-depth investigation. While traditional and contemporary approaches to lithography and intaglio are emphasized, the area and studios facilitate work in relief, screen-printing, and photomechanical processes. Specialized techniques such as mezzotint, metal engraving, drypoint, monotypes, paper casting, digital explorations, and bookmaking are also available to students.

More than 4,700 journalism students from across the United States and abroad gathered in Boston earlier this month to participate in instructional sessions and on-site contests as part of the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) Fall Convention. Our Upper School Digital Mass Media students competed against 1,453 participants from 141 schools in contests involving writing, multimedia production, photography, and design, once again proving to be amongst the best of the best.

Seniors can only submit ONE of each type of Portfolio. If submitting Film & Animation as part of the Art Portfolio, include a separate DVD playable on a television/DVD player. Review the Regional Affiliate Information section to determine if your region accepts Art Portfolios as actual artwork, digital files on CD-ROM or both.

Creativity and Citizenship: Freedom of Expression

In collaboration with the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers is pleased to present the Creativity and Citizenship: Freedom of Expression category for both art and writing. Works from any genre can be submitted both to Regional Affiliates in the individual and portfolio categories and to the national office to be considered for the Creativity and Citizenship Award.

Students entering this category must respond to the following prompt. The Constitution extends freedom of expression as a fundamental right to all U.S. citizens, but it is also a responsibility. It is up to all of us to make our voices heard in support of causes in which we believe. Our democracy thrives when citizens effectively express their opinions. As a creative citizen, using your artwork or writing, express what you believe will create a better future for the United States of America. Works will be evaluated on their originality, technical skill, and personal vision or voice. There is no submission fee for this category. The deadline is a postmark deadline of January 8, 2010. Regarding all photography, video and online categories: when writing captions for the images or completing coverage, there is no need to change the name of the school or the people in the photo or video to make the entry anonymous. Jerseys, t-shirts and signs in the photos often make it obvious to the judge what school is entering the contest.
