Scholars at Risk (SAR) è una rete internazionale di istituti di formazione superiore con l´obiettivo di proteggere studiosi e studiose, ricercatori e ricercatrici di tutto il mondo in pericolo di vita o il cui lavoro è severamente compromesso.

La rete, fondata nel 1999 presso la University of Chicago, comprende 664 università ed associazioni in 43 paesi (2023).

I principali ambiti di intervento di SAR sono 1. protection, 2. advocacy e 3. learning. Il primo aspetto offre ogni anno protezione e assistenza a più di 300 studiosi e studiose sotto minaccia in tutti i paesi del mondo; il secondo conduce ricerche e prende posizioni pubbliche (petizioni, interventi presso i governi ecc.) contro gli attacchi alle istituzioni universitarie e a singoli docenti; il terzo contribuisce a potenziare e a promuovere nelle università, tra docenti come tra studenti/esse, la difesa della ricerca libera.

Da 2021 l´Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo aderisce alla sezione Italiana di Scholars at Risk (SAR Italia), fondata nel 2019 e composta di 32 università e centri di ricerca.

Scholars at Risk Urbino si impegna a contribuire agli obiettivi della rete internazionale, in particolare informando studenti/esse e docenti della nostra università sui temi della libertà academica e offrendo la possibilità di accoglienza agli studiosi ed alle studiose a rischio. 

Scholars at Risk (SAR) is an international network of higher education institutions with the aim of protecting scholars and researchers around the world whose lives are in danger or whose work is severely compromised.

The network, founded in 1999 at the University of Chicago, comprises 664 universities and associations in 43 countries (2023).

SAR's main areas of intervention are 1. protection, 2. advocacy and 3. learning. The first aspect offers protection and assistance to more than 300 threatened scholars from all over the world each year; the second conducts research and takes public positions (petitions, interventions with governments, etc.) against attacks on academic institutions and individual lecturers; the third contributes to strengthening and promoting the defence of free research in universities, among lecturers as well as students.

Since 2021 the Università degli studi di Urbino Carlo Bo has joined the Italian section of Scholars at Risk (SAR Italia), founded in 2019 and composed of 32 universities and research centres.

Scholars at Risk Urbino is committed to contribute to the objectives of the international network, in particular by informing students and lecturers at our university on issues of academic freedom and by offering the possibility of a research/teaching position at the University of Urbino to scholars at risk.
