Hi Amiguis,
I'm so glad you're here.
Scholarly Amiga was created as a space for storytelling, scholarship, and community. As a first-generation scholar, I know firsthand how transformative and at times isolating the journey through higher education can feel. For years, I searched for stories that reflected my own experiences, hoping to find guidance, representation, and reassurance that I belonged in academic spaces. This platform is my way of paying that forward.
As I pursue a Ph.D in Counseling Psychology, I want to document more than milestones and accomplishments. I want to share the full experience, the uncertainty, growth, setbacks, breakthroughs, lessons, and moments of joy that often go unseen. I hope to offer an honest look at what it means to navigate academia while remaining grounded in community, culture, and purpose.
Here, you’ll find reflections on navigating graduate school, insights from my research journey, lessons in mentorship, and an honest look at the everyday experiences, challenges, and growth that come with being a PhD student. At its heart, Scholarly Amiga is built on a simple belief: none of us are meant to navigate these journeys alone. Community matters. Representation matters. And sometimes, all it takes is seeing someone else's path to begin believing in your own.
Whether you're a student exploring your next steps, a researcher seeking connection, an educator supporting others, or simply someone searching for a place to belong, I hope you find something here that speaks to you.
Thank you for being part of this community. I'm honored to share this journey with you.
Con amor,
Irma
