How It Works

The Schitt's Creek Summer Fic Reading Challenge will run from July 15-August 15, 2022. Participants are encouraged to read as many fics in the Schitt's Creek fandom as they can over the duration of the Challenge.

A tracking spreadsheet is available to help participants track their progress. To access the spreadsheet, press the button in the upper left corner of the page. When the page loads, go to File>Make a Copy to add a copy of the file to your own Google Drive. The tracking spreadsheet includes badges that can be won and a bingo card.

Every Friday, participants will be invited to submit their weekly stats for the leaderboard. Challenge leaders will be listed in three categories: number of fics read, number of words read, and number of comments left. The leaderboard will be published on this website and on our tumblr with the final leaderboard posted after August 15.

Every week, additional prompts and mini-challenges will be posted to this website and to our tumblr page.

Frequently Asked Questions

If a fic has multiple chapters does that mean i have to comment on every single one for it to count as leaving a comment or just one chapter? Authors love all the comments you leave them, but for tracking purposes, we're expecting one comment per fic.

When is the deadline to send my stats each week? The submission form will open on Friday and you’ll have until Sunday evening to submit. But, if you miss a week you can still submit for the following week (it’s cumulative week to week) or if you want to be stealthy, you can wait and submit your results at the end of the Challenge.

If a fanfic has chapters do I log each chapter separately or as one fic? Multi-chapter fics posted as a single title should be counted as one fic.

I'm reading a fanfiction that has chapters, but it was posted as a series does it count as one or two entries? If it’s a series, with each chapter posted as a separate title on AO3, then you should count those as individual fics.

How do I submit my challenge sheet? You won’t need to submit your entire sheet, just the totals. There’s a link on the leaderboard section of the webpage where you can submit them every Friday.

Can I change the font on the spreadsheet? Once you’ve made a copy of the spreadsheet it’s yours to do with as you like! Just be careful of the formulas.

How does reading chapter updates work for tracking? I would suggest tracking the word counts for the chapters you’ve read during the Challenge, which probably means doing some math, unfortuately.

Does listening to a podfic count as reading a fic? Podfics definitely count. You might have to go back to the original work to find the word count, though.

Must the tags you tick on the spreadsheet be tags the author has used on A03, or can you tick any applicable tag? If you think that a fic fits a particular trope but it’s not tagged, feel free to check it off on your list.

If a single fic fits multiple tags/boxes- AU, enemies-to-lovers, whatever else- do i check all those boxes? Yes, you can check as many boxes as you can for the different tropes. I tried to make them as extensive as possible, but there will definitely be some overlap.

Does re-reading fics count or do they all have to be new fics? Rereading absolutely counts! The Challenge is intended to be a fun way for people to read as much as possible, so any fic in the fandom fits!
